Job Description:  Children’s Ministry Specialist
 
 
Purpose 
The purpose of this position is to provide a style of servant leadership that will support the mission and vision of PPC, with an emphasis on programs related to Children’s Ministry.  The Children’s Ministry Specialist will work with children who participate in PPC programs and offer them encouragement, nurture and Christian education opportunities. 
 
Accountable to and Under the Direction of
The Coordinator of Educational Programs
 
Qualifications
 
1.  A person who reveals a personal relationship to Christ in daily life
 
2.  A person who has training by experience and/or education to fulfill this ministry:

  • Experience in church and community ministry
  • Experience in working with children in a Christian setting
  • Experience in working with multi-cultural populations
 
3.  A person who can give evidence of work performance related to the following:
  • Relational skills necessary to work with children, volunteers and staff
  • Develop lesson plans related to biblical themes
  • Develop crafts and game ideas that support lesson plans and biblical themes
  • Professional time management
  • Ability to work as a team player
 
Program Duties / Work Performance Expectations for Evaluation
The duties and responsibilities of this position will include and not be limited to the following:
 
1.   Each member of the children’s ministry staff will be assigned an area of focus based on their personal strengths and passions, (i.e. education, Reading, crafts, Christian discipleship programs.)  The focus area will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Help the team to brainstorm and implement creative and challenging learning activities, bible studies, and life skill development experiences. (i.e. Celebration Station, Red Zone Rewards, Field Trips, summer themes, etc.)
  • Share in the leadership of weekly chapel service.
  • Resource the children’s ministry team with craft ideas and supplies that relate to bible study themes.
 
2.  Attend to specific responsibilities that provide a safe and consistent environment for children:
  • Provide academic support and creative/ interesting instruction as well as inspiring Christian education that will stimulate the learning and nurturing of all children in the classroom.
  • Plan special activities that create structured fun, and enhances Christ’s love for the children.
  • Manage behavior modification procedures consistently.
  • Prepare snack for children in the classroom or assist with Kid’s Café.
  • Maintain a consistent presentation of rules, program guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide transportation and adult supervision on children’s field trips. 
 
3.  Attend to specific responsibilities that promote a positive team experience .
  • Be punctual – arrive for regular afterschool program 30 minutes prior to children’s arrival.
  • Stay on site with other children’s ministry staff until all children have been picked up to make sure no one gets left alone with a child waiting on a late pick up.
  • Clean up workspace, including classroom and kitchen (take out trash, clean floor, clean tables and counters, place all dishes in dish washer, lock all windows, clean bathroom associated with your class, check toilet paper and soap supply.)
  • Actively participate in full staff meetings.
  • Actively participate in Educational Programs Team meetings
  • Complete all required reporting (ex.: incident, accident, Kid’s Café) and data keeping in a timely manner (meeting all deadlines).

Job Description:  Youth Ministry Specialist 
 
Purpose:
 
The purpose of this position is to provide a style of servant leadership that will support the mission and vision of PPC, with an emphasis on programs related to Youth Ministry, (adolescents, age 6th to 12th grade).  The Youth Ministry Specialist will work with teenagers in the Portland community in general and those who participate in PPC programs specifically, offering mentoring relationships and programs that provide encouragement, nurture, Christian discipleship and support in their academic achievement.
 
Accountable to and Under the Direction of:
The Coordinator of Educational Programs
 
 
Qualifications:
 
  1. A person who reveals a personal relationship to Christ in daily life.

    • experience in working with teenagers in a Christian setting

The duties and responsibilities of this position will include and not be limited to the following:
 
  1.  Each member of the youth’s ministry staff will be assigned an area of focus based on their personal strengths and passions, (i.e. education, Reading, crafts, recreation, Christian discipleship programs.)  The focus area will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Share in the leadership of day to day responsibilities in the youth program
  • Design and coordinate leadership development opportunities through recreation
  • Help the team to brainstorm a well-balanced variety of programs that offer academic support, discipleship activities, bible studies, and life skill development experiences, field trips, art experiences, and leadership development programs.
  • Visit students at third place gatherings to cultivate relationships and promote evangelistic opportunities (i.e. visit youth at school, during sports events, in the park, on the street).
  • Work with program staff team and volunteers to help coordinate special discipleship activities such as summer camp, mission trips, recreation clinics, etc.
 
  1. Attend to specific responsibilities that provide a safe and consistent environment for children:

  • Be willing to speak at public events to promote PPC
  • Be willing to write articles, newsletters, thank you notes to promote awareness of PPC
  • Organize and Participate in Sporting Team Events (i.e. Basketball League)
  • Complete all required reporting (ex.: incident, accident, Kid’s Café) and data keeping in a timely manner (meeting all deadlines).
 
4.  Participate in special events and programs at PPC, especially those that involve teenagers
  • Examples: Holiday programs, fund/friend raisers, field trips, block parties, thank-a-thons, out-reach events, etc.
