Lighthouse Academy at Newburg holds Health and Back to School Fair

posted on August 09

The Lighthouse Academy at Newburg is a community ministry located in the Heartland District serving students and families in the Newburg and surrounding areas.

Here, Steve Bays shares how their Health and Back to School Fair went:

On Saturday, August 4, we had our annual Health and Back to School Fair to help Louisville area students get ready for the new school year. With the help of many sponsors and volunteers, we were able to provide free back-to-school/sports physicals and free backpacks filled with school supplies. There were many fun activities, such as face painting, a magician, and mascots, as well as educational activities and booths.

Thanks to one of our sponsors, 700 free lunches were taken home by the students.  Another visiting   ministry let them search for free books to take home. Many families and students had fun and are now better prepared for a great start to the school year.

We had over 1150 people register for the fair with school students from all over the Metro Louisville area. Thanks to volunteer doctors and the Galen School of Nursing, we were able to complete almost 80 free physicals. In addition, 110 people, both adults and students, received free vision screenings. We gave out 851 backpacks full of supplies.

We are grateful for the Heartland district churches and church member volunteers who help us each year. See our website at www.thelighthousecenter.org for more information or on ways you can partner with us.
